Heritage workwear with a distinctly worn-in character. The Carhartt WIP Mens OG Detroit Jacket in Black Stone Canvas combines the brand's iconic workwear silhouette with a distinctive chalk-washed finish. Crafted from heavyweight organic cotton Dearborn Canvas, this jacket retains the robust construction of traditional workwear while introducing a sun-faded appearance that gives each garment its own character.

The Black Stone Canvas colourway offers an alternative to conventional solid-black outerwear. Its washed appearance, tonal variations and contrasting corduroy collar create a textured, vintage-inspired aesthetic that works particularly well with relaxed denim, loose-fitting trousers and contemporary streetwear.

Unlike the unlined Detroit Summer Jacket, the OG Detroit features a lined body and sleeves, making it a more substantial option for cooler weather and transitional layering.

How We'd Style It

The Washed Black Denim Edit

Pair the Black Stone Canvas OG Detroit Jacket with the Carhartt WIP Brandon Pant in Black Stone Washed, a heavyweight white T-shirt and understated black trainers.

Combining different washed-black fabrics creates a coordinated outfit without relying on identical finishes. The jacket's structured canvas and the Brandon Pant's loose straight silhouette provide a balanced approach to contemporary streetwear.

The contrast between faded black denim and the lighter T-shirt also helps highlight the jacket's distinctive chalk-washed finish.

The Vintage Workwear Look

For a heritage-inspired outfit, combine the OG Detroit Jacket with relaxed indigo jeans, an ecru sweatshirt and neutral suede trainers.

The combination of faded black canvas and traditional blue denim references classic American workwear while maintaining a modern, relaxed silhouette.

Keep accessories simple with a canvas backpack or a Carhartt WIP Watch Hat to complement the jacket's utilitarian character.

The Contemporary Monochrome Outfit

Style the Black Stone Canvas Detroit Jacket with charcoal cargo trousers, a black knitted jumper and low-profile leather trainers.

Mixing charcoal, faded black and darker fabric textures creates depth within a largely monochrome outfit.

The chalk-washed canvas introduces visual interest, allowing the jacket to become the focal point without needing bold colours or additional patterns.

Why We Love It

The Carhartt WIP OG Detroit Jacket stands out for its combination of substantial construction, heritage-inspired detailing and distinctive washed finish.

Made from heavyweight 100% organic cotton Dearborn Canvas, the jacket features Carhartt WIP's original loose fit, offering a more generous silhouette than slimmer interpretations of the Detroit.

The chalk-washing process creates a sun-faded appearance with noticeable colour variations across the garment's details, giving the Black Stone Canvas finish its individual character.

Inside, the jacket features a poplin body lining and nylon sleeve lining for additional comfort and warmth.

Triple-stitched construction reinforces its workwear influences, while the corduroy collar provides a contrasting texture against the heavyweight canvas.

Practical features include a zipped front closure, zipped chest pocket, internal chest pocket and adjustable cuffs and bottom band.

The signature woven Carhartt WIP Square Label completes the design.

The Editor's Take

What makes the Black Stone Canvas OG Detroit particularly appealing is the combination of its original loose fit and deliberately aged appearance.

Where the Black Rinsed Detroit Summer Jacket offers a cleaner, more minimalist aesthetic, the OG Detroit in Black Stone Canvas delivers something more expressive, with visible fabric variation and a stronger vintage influence.

The chalk-washed finish makes it especially effective alongside stonewashed denim, charcoal trousers and earthy neutral layers.

Its lined construction also makes the OG Detroit a useful choice when you want a more substantial outer layer than the unlined Summer Jacket.

Our styling recommendation? Pair the Black Stone Canvas OG Detroit Jacket with Black Stone Washed Brandon Pants, a heavyweight ecru sweatshirt and neutral suede trainers.

The combination of faded canvas, washed denim and contrasting cotton creates a cohesive Carhartt WIP outfit that balances heritage workwear with contemporary streetwear proportions.

Fit & Sizing Advice

The OG Detroit Jacket is designed in Carhartt WIP's original loose fit, offering generous room through the body for comfortable layering.

If you prefer a traditional oversized workwear silhouette, this cut is particularly suitable for wearing over sweatshirts, hoodies and heavyweight knitwear.

Customers who prefer a closer-fitting jacket should compare the garment measurements with a jacket they already own before selecting a size.

The adjustable snap-button cuffs and bottom band allow you to refine the shape of the jacket.

Fabric & Care Notes

The heavyweight Dearborn Canvas has a substantial feel, while the chalk-washed treatment creates intentional colour variations and a faded appearance.

These variations are part of the garment's design rather than necessarily indicating wear or a manufacturing fault.

Follow the manufacturer's care label carefully to help maintain the canvas finish, lining and contrasting corduroy collar.

Carhartt WIP Logo

The year 1889 was a time of steel, steam, and locomotives. It was also when Hamilton Carhartt & Company was founded by its namesake (known affectionately as “Ham”) and began producing overalls with two sewing machines and a half-horsepower electric motor in a small Detroit loft. Early failures led Hamilton to focus heavily on market research, and after talking directly with railroad workers, he designed a product that truly fit their needs. Under the motto “Honest value for an honest dollar,” the Carhartt bib overall was created and rapidly evolved into the standard for quality workwear. In times of international conflict, Carhartt committed to “backing the attack.” We offered seven Carhartt facilities to the government for the purpose of creating uniforms for the U.S. military in World War I. During World War II, Carhartt produced coveralls for soldiers and support personnel, jungle suits for Marines in the Pacific, and workwear for women entering the factories on the home front.During the 1970s, massive orders for the construction of the Alaska Pipeline helped grow the brand, and Carhartt undeniably showed that our products could survive and thrive in the most rugged conditions on Earth.

With entrepreneurial vision and determination, Hamilton and the next three generations of the Carhartt family established a brand that has stood the test of time.

Carhartt has global operations in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe. Carhartt employ more than 2,700 American workers.

Carhartt. Outworking them all since 1889.
